Meet the Family
Helen and Colin, recent empty-nesters, have lived in their Burbank home for over 25 years. The couple, a nurse and a high school principal, were ready to take on much-needed home maintenance projects, now that their last child had left home. Helen, the celebrated family cook, insisted the kitchen be a top priority on their renovation list.
Years of busy family life had left their kitchen in disrepair, and their appliances also needed updating. The couple wanted to create a “dream kitchen” with custom cabinets and new appliances, but still maintain the warm feeling their old kitchen held for them.

The Consultation Process
The homeowners, Colin and Helen Brown, started their kitchen remodel by discussing the project with friends and family. A trusted friend recommended a contractor, and they decided to meet with him. The initial consultation went well, and soon the couple decided to hire him. However, upon reading the proposed contract Colin and Helen felt something wasn't right. Instead of employing the contractor right away, they sought out other renovation professionals for comparison. That’s what led the couple to Bright Builders.
After connecting with our scheduling manager, Helen and Colin’s suspicions regarding the recommended contractor was confirmed. Immediately, they were relieved a contract had not been signed. The homeowners agreed to meet with the contractor Bright Builders recommended after they learned about the company’s screening process. They met with three contractors and were impressed with the strong skillset and compelling references each contractor provided them. Confidently, Helen and Colin hired one of our Bright Builders prescreened contractors to build their dream kitchen.
Kitchen Remodeling Results
Custom wood cabinets and granite were part of the homeowner's vision for their kitchen remodel. They loved the rich tones of the products they chose and found they kept a warm feel to the kitchen. The cabinet and counter space was expanded by incorporating a small eating area into the remodel.
Seating taken away from the dining nook was replaced by the addition of a large breakfast bar at the island. Dark hardwood flooring replaced the old, worn, linoleum. Professional grade appliances with stainless steel finishes were brought in; a favorite feature for Helen, who enjoys cooking for her large family’s gatherings.
A modern, trough style sink replaced the original kitchen sink and the faucet fixture chosen has a hands-free on/off option. Every detail was accounted for in the design of the homeowner's long-awaited dream kitchen.
Finishing touches included a ceramic tile backsplash, new pendant lights installed above the island, and under-cabinet lighting. Colin and Helen chose crown molding to outline the kitchen’s ceiling. The room’s overhead fluorescent lighting was replaced with recessed pot lights with a dimmer option.
The Brown family had a bumpy start to their kitchen remodel. A poor experience with a contractor made them hesitant to trust another professional with their dream kitchen. Bright Builders was able to show the couple how our thorough screening process of contractors provides our clients with skilled craftsmen they can trust. With the help of Bright Builders, Helen and Colin found a contractor that met their needs to give them their new kitchen.
