Meet the Family
Michael, an IT specialist and avid mountain-biker, had recently purchased a home in Calabasas, California. Michael's newly acquired four-bedroom, 3 bath home was in his ideal location; close to both his work and Malibu with extensive biking trails. But unfortunately, what the home had in location, it lacked in appearance.
Although Michael is a very handy guy, he knew he wasn’t really equipped to handle the renovation on his own. He wanted to invest in his home and recognized a stellar kitchen, installed by trained professionals, would increase its value. Michael began looking for professional contractors to work with.

The Consultation Process
Finding the right contractor for a kitchen remodel is a time-consuming yet vital piece of any renovation puzzle. Bright Builders helps homeowners navigate this process. We connect their clients with contractors who have been screened, and approved, by the Bright Builders team.
Michael completed a renovation request online and quickly received a call from the scheduling manager from Bright Builders. They discussed Michael’s kitchen remodel project; budget, and desired timeline. Within the week, Michael was meeting with qualified contractors he could consider hiring to perform his kitchen remodel.
Three contractors visited Michael’s home, each skilled renovation professionals. After comparing quotes, payment options, and references supplied by each contractor he met, Michael hired one he felt met his requirements. Within two weeks of contacting us, Michael's kitchen remodel was underway.
Kitchen Remodeling Results
Bringing Michael’s 1970’s kitchen into the next century required more than just aesthetic updates. Unforeseen plumbing issues and evidence of rodent activity were discovered on the first day of the remodel.
Michael understood from previous discussions with the contractor that unexpected problems often arose when dealing with older homes like his; therefore, he was prepared to deal with this setback. He was satisfied with the contractor’s prompt communication about the problems and, appreciative of the contractor’s suggestions for how to deal with them.
In the end, Michael opted to choose less expensive flooring and counter-tops to offset the additional costs incurred by the surprise plumbing and rodent hiccups.
Bold, dark-colored cabinets outlined the galley style kitchen. The sleek, stainless-steel appliances enhanced the chrome-colored cabinet hardware. Grey and black speckled quartz countertops were the perfect choice for the newly expanded counterspace. The color of the material off-sets the cabinets, balancing the room from the largely dark colors choices. The new, partial open-concept layout creates a clear line of sight to the fireplace in the living room.
When this Calabasas kitchen remodel was finished, the homeowner was thrilled with the overall appearance and function of the space. Michael expressed that he enjoyed the collaborative business relationship with his contractor. He also stated that he would “definitely use his contractor again”, when he was ready to tackle the next phase of his home renovation plan.
